Freight Laboratory Train
A freight wagon fitted with state-of-the-art sensors and remote monitoring, designed to be coupled to different freight trains.

The Freight Laboratory Train is developed by RAIL CoLAB in partnership with MEDWAY, which supplied the base wagon.
The wagon will be fitted with state-of-the-art sensors and remote monitoring equipment. Coupled to different freight trains, it allows continuous analysis of:
- axle and wheelset performance
- coupling behaviour
- braking action
Once in operation, the laboratory will also be able to monitor the track infrastructure.
The agreement was signed on 22 May 2025 in Entroncamento and presented at the Portugal Railway Summit, at the National Railway Museum, where the wagon was on display.
